Beer Can Chicken

We make this recipe all the time. Rich and I really like this moist chicken.

Dry Rub:
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 whole chicken
  • 1 can of beer (empty out half of the beer) - if you prefer you can put apple juice in a soda can
Now if you have a beer can chicken can rack put the can in the rack and put the chicken over the can. (This can be done with out the rack but it falls over easy so I recommend a trip to Home Depot for this CHEAP rack).

Combine all of the dry rub ingredients.

Rub spices all over the chicken.

Place chicken on a hot grill and cook until thoroughly cooked. A 4 pound chicken on our gas grill takes about 30 minutes.

Be carefull removing the chicken from the rack. The liquid in the can is now hot.
