An old favorite appetizer you may have forgotten is the fun - Hanky Panky. At least in Ohio in the 70's every party included this easy finger food. It is still as good and well received as ever!
1 pound roll of sausage
1 pound of hamburger
1 tablespoon of oregano
1 tablespoon of chili powder
1 - 8 oz can of tomato sauce
1 pound of Velveeta cheese
1 minced onion
cocktail bread *
Brown meats and onion in a skillet. Drain off the grease.
Add all of the remaining ingredients except bread and stir until well combined.
Place the pieces of cocktail bread on a baking sheet.
Top each piece of bread with a tablespoon of the meat mixture.
Broil in the oven for 9 minutes!
* Cocktail bread is the small loaves of bread available in the deli at Publix but I've also seen it in the bread department. You may have a choice of rye or pumpernickel. The pieces will be about 1 1/2 inch by 2 inch.
