Spaghetti Birthday Cake

My son's birthday was this past weekend. He had requested a spaghetti dinner. I had seen this cake on line and thought it would be a perfect addition. I made a few adaptions and the following was the result. It received rave reviews!

1 chocolate cake mix
2 cans of vanilla frosting
1 can of chocolate frosting
unsweetened cocoa powder
yellow food coloring
vanilla chocolate or chips
strawberries (defrosted frozen work great)

Prepare cake mix per the instructions. Bake it in 2 - 8" round pans.
Once the cake has cooled place one on a serving platter and crumble the second in a mixing bowl.
Combine one tub of the vanilla frosting with a 1/2 teaspoon cocoa powder and 2 drops of yellow food coloring. This should be close to the color of cooked pasta but continue to add until you are pleased with the color.
Ice the whole layer with the other tub of white frosting.
Remove some of the crumbled layer and combine with some of the chocolate frosting until it is the correct consistency that you can make it into three meatballs. Place the meatballs on the iced layer.
Using a pastry tip pipe the remaining tinted frosting on the cake to resemble pasta. Figure eight motions worked well.
Place strawberries in a blender or use an immersion (stick) blender to puree to a chunky consistency.
Pour on your cake.
Finally you will need the look of Parmesan cheese. Grind in mini food processor or chop the white chocolate. Sprinkle over top!

You will probably have enough crumbled cake left over to have extra meatballs.

Hope you are as please with the results as I was!
