Sound strange? It's not! I have been making this recipe for years and it is really good. It dresses up a good basic meat loaf!
Meatloaf:
1 medium onion - chopped
1 egg
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup seasoned bread stuffing mix (like Pepperidge Farms)
3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
salt and pepper to taste
Topping (for the lack of a better word):
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1 package refrigerated crescent rolls
Gravy (optional):
1 dry brown gravy mix
1/2 cup red wine
1/2 cup water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Saute onion in butter until soft.
Lightly beat egg.
Combine the egg, drained onions, stuffing, salt, pepper and cheese.
Place meat on a baking sheet line d with parchment paper.
Shape the meat into a loaf shape.
beat second egg with the tablespoon of water.
Unroll your crescent rolls.
Seal perforations with the egg mixture and place over the meat loaf.
Brush over the entire laof with the egg/water wash.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Blend gravy ingredients in a saucepan over heat.
Serve with gravy.
