Sugar Cookie Santa Heads

Sugar Cookie Santa Heads

(cute and dress up our cookies platter)

1 cup of butter (soft)
1 1/2 cup confectioner sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tarter

Decorations:
light corn syrup
red sugar
mini marshmallows (cut in half, so that they are just shorter)
flaked coconut
mini chocolate chips
mini red baking chips or M&Ms

In a large bowl cream butter and confectioner's sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg and the extracts.
In a separate bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda, and cream of tarter. Gradually add to the creamed mixture - mix thoroughly remembering the more flour mixtures are worked with the more tough they will become.
Divide dough into 2 sessions, cover and freeze 25 minutes.
Take one section from freezer. Roll on an ungreased baking sheet into an 11" x 8" rectangle. Cut the rectangle into 22 strips but do not separate. Cut each strip into 7 triangles but do not separate. Repeat with other dough.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10- 13 minutes - edges will be lightly browned. Cool 2 minutes on pan then use a knife to separate and move to a cooling rack.
Let cool completely before decorating: Microwave the corn syrup 6-8 seconds - brush big end of cookies with syrup and press on coconut to form a beard. Brush tip (hat area) with syrup and sprinkle with red sugar. Dip marshmallow in syrup place one on tip of hat and several more on the bottom edge of the sugar. Dip chips in syrup place for the nose and eyes.

The diagrams pictured will hopefully make the directions a little clearer.
