Surprise Kiss Cookies

This is one of my mother's cookie recipes. She made it the first time for Easter so I think of it as an Easter treat!

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 cup finely chopped walnuts
1 package chocolate kisses
powdered sugar

Beat together butter, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add sifted flour and nuts beating on low until just combined. Chill dough.
Take a 1 tablespoon measure of dough and shape over a chocolate kiss (so that the kiss in completely covered and in the middle of the dough). Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake 12 minutes. Roll in confectioner's sugar and cool on a rack. Best stored in tight seal containers.
